Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley Take on News Roles at Marc by Marc Jacobs

Marc by Marc Jacobs ready-to-wear may be getting a makeover with the news that Katie Hillier has been promoted to the role of creative director and Luella Bartley will take on the gig as design director.

Don't break a sweat, Marc Jacobs himself isn't going anywhere. "He’s still the boss," Robert Duffy, president and vice chairman of Marc Jacobs International, told WWD. "He’s as involved as he wants to be. It depends on the season."

So who are these talented London ladies? Hillier has been a freelancer for Marc by Marc over the last decade working on bags, watches, eyewear, and jewelry, while Bartley is known for her brand Luella and designing a capsule bag collection for Mulberry.

Duffy and Jacobs sought out new leadership, because according to Duffy the competition had become too steep. "We have an issue with the ready-to-wear," he admitted in WWD. "I knew it because I pay very close attention to company-owned retail stores and I knew what was happening. We started out really st
rong in denim, and then we just let it go. We rested on our laurels and it hurt us."

There's good news for loyal MJ shoppers. Under the new reign, Duff hopes to stray away from looks that are "fashiony" and "trendy," and instead, focus on special capsule collections and unique designs.

"I am very excited to have Katie here in her new role," said Jacobs in WWD. "Her creativity and energy inspires me and everybody she works with. She is a great leader. She is a team player and a great friend to Robert and me." Sounds like one happy happy MJ family.
